LAKELAND, Fla.--Southeastern University began a six game homestand, Wednesday night, by hosting No. 5 Embry-Riddle University at the SEU Sportsplex. The highly rated Lady Eagles defeated Southeastern, 3-0, (12-25, 22-25, 10-25) remaining unbeaten within Sun Conference play.
Southeastern went down quickly in game one, but stormed back in game two to build a 18-13 lead. After ERU rallied to tie the score 19-19, Southeastern grabbed the next two points to retake the lead, 21-19. But, ERU capitalized on three attack errors by Southeastern, and used those mistakes to capture the game, 25-22. The Lady Eagles used the momentum they captured in game two to cruise to an easy win in game three.
Embry-Riddle (22-4, 9-0) displayed their dominate offense by striking 42 kills and making just eight errors. Taylor Martin led ERU with 12 kills and five digs. Adriana Vazquez dished out 22 assists, while Nina Kontrec led all players with 19 digs.
Southeastern (10-16, 3-6) was led by Catherine Coston's seven kills while Christi Limpert went 5-for-10 on attacks. Christine Dell and Karina Mambuca both chipped in with four kills apiece, and Katie Trenski led the defense with nine digs.
The Lady Fire will host Savannah College of Art & Design, Saturday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m.
