Vigue Throws Complete Game Shutout; Improves to 5-0 on Season
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Embry-Riddle University blanked Southeastern, 6-0, Friday evening as the Eagles won their seventh straight game, and remained perfect within conference play improving to 10-0 on the season.
The Eagles are currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, and last night's victory runs their record to 14-2 overall on the season.
ERU's Ryan Vigue was outstanding Friday night, pitching a complete game shutout as he threw 115 pitches in the contest. Vigue allowed just four hits, one walk, while striking out 10 Fire batters. He also improved his record to 5-0 on the season.
Southeastern starting pitcher, Dimitri Nunez, was tagged for the loss, falling to 2-2 on the year. Nunez pitched three innings and surrendered five earned runs on six hits.
Josh Estridge continued to shine out of the bullpen for the Fire, pitching three scoreless innings to keep SEU in the game.
Gabe Grinder and Cameron Ellis both did a nice job out of the bullpen for SEU. Grinder pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing just one hit. Ellis allowed an unearned run, but did a nice job working through trouble in the eighth inning.
After grabbing a run in the third inning, the Eagles broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four runs to grab a 5-0 lead. Four consecutive base hits by ERU highlighted the inning and eventually chased Nunez from the game.
ERU's Aaron Glaum went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while J.T. Warmoth went 2-for-2 with a RBI. The Eagles finished with nine hits in the game.
Kevin Kunnen went 1-for-3 with a double while Kyle Petrick, Daniel Mims, and Gerard D'Angelo all had hits for Southeastern.
Southeastern falls to 8-8 overall and 3-4 within the conference. The two schools will finish up their series on Saturday, with a double-header, starting at 1:00 p.m.
