Warner Runs Past Lady Fire in Second Half; Will Face No. 1 St. Thomas This Weekend
LAKE WALES, Fla.--The Southeastern Lady Fire Basketball team's season is now over, as they lost to Warner University in the first round of The Sun Conference Tournament, 70-49, Tuesday night.
It was the third meeting between the two schools, with Warner winning each game as the Lady Royals improve to 15-16 overall, and will now face No. 1 seed St. Thomas University, on Friday.
The Lady Fire trailed by just five points at the half (31-26), as both teams shot 30% from the floor.
Three major statistics that hurt Southeastern were in the categories of rebounding, three-point shooting, and free throws. Warner dominated the Lady Fire on the glass, outrebounding SEU, 51-36. Warner's Candace Smith pulled down a game high 13 rebounds while Shawnelle Campbell added 11 boards.
Warner also knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game, compared to just four three-point field goals for SEU. Warner's Tracy Gentry finished with 17 points as she buried five three-pointers and Stephanie Wills ended the game with 13 points, as she made four three-point field goals.
At the free throw line, the Lady Royals shot 14-of-21 overall compared to just 7-of-13 for Southeastern.
Warner outscored Southeastern, 39-23, in the second half.
Southeastern was led by Breckley Neale's 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Ashley Wilson added 13 points and five rebounds while Casey Jensen chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman, Liz Capps, also had a nice game finishing with nine points and a team high 11 rebounds.
Campbell finished with 17 points and nine assists for the Lady Royals.
Southeastern ends their season with a 12-17 record.
