Lady Fire Continues Grueling Schedule With Trip to DeLand
DELAND, Fla.--Southeastern University had the tall order of facing NCAA D-I Stetson University, Tuesday evening, on the road while trying to end a seven game losing streak. SEU battled the division one powerhouse, but eventually lost the match, 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 18-25).
Stetson outhit Southeastern, 34-26, and forced 26 attack errors on the Lady Fire while committing just 11 errors themselves.
SEU made 10 errors in game one, while the Lady Hatters banged home 10 kills. Stetson had 12 team kills in games two and three.
Defensively, Southeastern shined against the great hitters of Stetson, finishing with 43 digs in the match.
Freshman, Katie Trenski, continues to blossom into a star defender, ending with a game high 16 digs. Tara McSherley dished out 21 assists and dug out nine balls.
Karina Mambuca led SEU with eight kills and Catherine Coston chipped in with seven kills.
Stetson's Kaley DiGirolamo led all hitters with 11 kills while Kaylee Ream finished with 10 kills. Monique Russell and Ream both finished with 11 digs.
Southeastern (4-11, 1-4) will travel to Montgomery, Ala., this weekend to compete in a tournament hosted by Faulkner University. SEU opens the tournament, Friday afternoon, versus Bryan College, before matching up with Southern Wesleyan University, in the evening at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Fire will play host school, Faulkner University, at 11:30 a.m. while ending the tournament versus Virginia Intermont, at 3:30 p.m.
