Southeastern Goes 2-0 on Road Trip to Alabama
MONTGOMERY, Ala.--Southeastern University defeated Faulkner University, 3-2, Saturday morning to go a perfect 2-0 on their road trip to Alabama this weekend. SEU defeated Huntingdon College, 4-1, on Thursday and is now 3-2 on the young season.
Trailing, 2-0, Southeastern's Shawn Meek started the comeback for the Fire scoring an unassisted goal on a free kick. Meek quickly shot the ball while the Faulkner defense was preparing for the kick, and stunned goal keeper Luke Harrison as the ball found the back of the net.
Meek tied the score, 2-2, right before the half on a pass from Matthew Sandford. Sandford feed Meek about six yards out, and Meek ripped a shot past Harrison for his second goal of the game.
In the second half, SEU took advantage of space, playing possession versus Faulkner's speed. Stephen Eppinger scored the game winning goal at the 82 minute mark, when Knox Strawbridge sent an inside pass near the Faulkner net, and Eppinger pushed it past Harrison to give the Fire their first lead of the game.
Southeastern will play two key conference road games this week, starting on Wednesday night when they faceoff versus Warner University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday afternoon, the Fire will travel to Babson Park, Fla., to take on Webber International at 3:30 p.m.
