LAKELAND, Fla.--Colorado Christian spoiled Southeastern's home opener, Thursday night, in the SEU Sportsplex with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Fire.

Around 450 rambunctious Fire fans packed into the Sportsplex for the home opener, but saw Southeastern come out flat in game one, falling 25-7. The Lady Fire had just one kill in the game while committing seven attack errors.

Southeastern would respond in game two, winning 26-24. The Lady Fire forced CCU into eight attack errors. Taylor Dawson and Karina Mambuca both had two kills apiece in the set, as Southeastern outslugged the Lady Cougars, 12-7.

Colorado Christian (1-0) jumped out to an 11-3 lead in game three, and held off a late charge by Southeastern to earn a 25-23 victory, despite five kills by Mambuca in the set. 

The Lady Cougars left little doubt in game four, winning 25-13, as CCU banged home 13 kills with no errors in the set while adding four service aces. 

For the match, CCU outhit Southeastern, 40-28, and forced 25 attack errors on Southeastern.  

Erica Brown led the Lady Cougars with nine kills and nine digs. Andi Weber finished with seven kills, 10 digs, three aces, and five assisted blocks.

Lauren Rosenthal dished out a game high 29 assists for the Lady Cougars.

For Southeastern (1-3), Mambuca led all players with 10 kills while also adding nine digs and two assisted blocks. Christi Limpert chipped in with seven kills and two assisted blocks. Tara McSherley led SEU with 22 assists to go with two aces and nine digs.

Southeastern will travel to Brunswick, Ga., Saturday to play a non-conference game versus Coastal College of Georgia. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
