Smoak Makes 12 Saves to Keep Lady Fire in the Game
MIAMI, Fla.--The Southeastern Lady Fire soccer team lost their season opener to conference foe St. Thomas University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
Sarah Mira scored from Sarrah Granda at the 30:15 mark of the first half for the only goal of the game.
The Lady Bobcats ambushed Southeastern with 34 shots in the game, as first year goal keeper Karleigh Smoak made 12 key saves to keep the Lady Fire in the contest.
Sophomore, Jessica Crowe, who was named an all-conference player a year ago, was held in check by the St. Thomas defense, managing just two shots on goal in the game.
Freshman, Suzy Bondy, led SEU with three shots on goal.
Ariana Lorenzo pitched the shutout for St. Thomas, making five saves in the game.
The loss will not be considered a conference loss for Southeastern, as the two schools agreed to play two games this season home and away. The game on October 20th, in Lakeland, will be considered a conference game.
Southeastern (0-1) will next travel to play Florida College on September 5th.
